Battlefield Bhajans: Experiences of a Hare Krishna in Iraq
Experiences of a Hare Krishna in Iraq

Front line preaching from Bhakta Andrew

October 4th, 2008 by Partha-sarathi dasa

I received this letter from Andrew, it shows the compassion one starts to exhibit once they take to the path of KC.

Hare Krsna!!

Times have been extremely difficult lately, due to the loss of a good friend,
who was cut down by sniper fire on the 30th of September.  SPC Chris
Bartkiewicz was a friend of mine from 1st Platoon, A. Co. 1/6 Infantry.  He
always had a smile on his face and a welcome heart to anyone that he passed.  I
never had the opportunity to open him up to Krsna Consciouness and I feel
tremendously guilty that I never opened his enormous heart and soul to Krishna.

With Bart’s passing, I have been trying not to mourn the end of this material
life for him and instead engross myself in Bhagavad Gita, especially chapter 2.
All Ksatria’s who are killed in battle are able to attain the heavenly planets,
aren’t they?  I only hope that Bart had some knowledge of Krsna before he was
killed.
A few days ago, I recieved a package from the devotees in LA, with THOUSANDS of
Prasadm cookies, which have been welcomed by all of the soldiers around me.
Thank you, very, very, very kindly for all of the support, it is greatly
appreciated.  I hope that some day I can return all of the service that I have
been given here.
I dislike being brief, but I must go, as duty calls and I have to go out for my
daily mission.

Japa:  16 rounds, solid.

Reading:  The nectar of devotion and BG.

BG Classes:  Once or twice a week, depending how much time I am given.
